WORKSHOPS
I've been making things out of discarded electronics
stuff and general scrap materials for at least forty years. In some ways,
modern junk is less adaptable than the old stuff was. On the other hand,
there's more of it being thrown away than there ever has been and the quality
of some bits like miniature stepper motors is amazing. Children's pedal
generators and hub disc twirly things are actually fairly easy to make
once you realise you can do it.
To help other people get started, I do workshops on understanding
small renewable energy systems and making pedal generators. These have
ranged from talks for an audience of 300 or so with practical demonstrations
of pedal generators using different types of motor, to practical sessions
where a small group of people can make tiny generators out of bits of old
disk drives and fax machines in an afternoon.
