SOLAR
BUSKING BACKPACK PA
Our smallest renewable energy system is a 40 Watt busking
PA in backpack format. The Solar Panel, battery, three input amplifier
and speaker system are worn on the performer's back; the total weight is
about 10kg. It is ideal for mobile or processional performances for one
or two musicians. Although it effectively runs directly from Solar power,
its small reserve battery will run for about 20 minutes with no sun. If
there is heavy cloud, the Solar panel can be removed to save weight and
a larger battery fitted instead, extending the running time up to an hour
and a half at full volume between recharges from a pedal generator. Whilst
not totally unique, this equipment is still very unusual and some musicians
are shy of the attention it attracts.
This
30W 'shoebox' sized system is actually one of our oldest items. It is a
leftover from the old non Green street performance equipment. It is completely
self contained, incorporating a three input preamplifier, car graphic booster
type amplifier, two speakers, a 14V NiCad battery and a Mains charging
system. It can run at full volume for a couple of hours from its internal
battery or be powered externally. To recharge the internal battery it needs
to be plugged into the Mains overnight. It's very useful as a backup, such
as when a local dignitary turns up early to make a speech at a street event
before the larger system is set up - all you have to do is plug in a mike
and press the On button.
